  ISTVAN BALAZS (HUNGARIAN 1908-1995)  
 

István Balázs was born in Kolozsvár on Februaray 2, 1908 and died in Budapest on May 5th , 1995. He studied at the Budapesti Iparművészeti Iskola (School of Applied Arts in Budapest) under Jenő Haranghy and Antal Orbán from 1932-1934. From 1948-49 he taught art in Tatabánya. From 1950 -on he was a member of the Hungarian Workers' Party. In District VII he was a member of the department overseeing art installations on public buidings. He is known for the following public monuments:
Woman combing her hair created in stone in 1958 at the entrance of the Szechenyi spa in Budapest.
Endre Ady bust created in 1975 at the entrance of the Előkertje Elementary School in Budapest, IX district.
Mother and Child sculpture located in Baja, Hungary
